The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) as the chairperson of the Agriculture and Fisheries Mechanization Research, Development, and Extension Network (AFMechRDEN) hosted the AFMechRDEN’s Consultative Meeting and Workshop on June 26-28, 2023, at Whitewoods Convention and Leisure Hotel, Cavite. This was attended by representatives from the regional field office, attached agencies, and bureaus of the Department of Agriculture including two personnel of the Interim Fiber Engineering Division representing the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA).

DA-RFO V and PhilFIDA Provide Livelihood Opportunities for Mayon Evacuees

Families affected by the Mayon volcano eruption are facing upheaval and uncertainty as they have had to leave their homes to stay safe from the volcanic threat. In collaboration with the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Regional Office V, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office V (DA-RFO V) took a proactive step towards providing livelihood opportunities for the affected community by conducting a two-day training on Abaca Twining and Eco-Bag Making at the Malilipot Evacuation Center in Malilipot, Albay, and the San Antonio Evacuation Center in San Antonio, Tabaco City, on July 12-14, 2023.

President Bongbong Marcos and DA-PhilFIDA Regional Office VIII  Distribute 4.6 million Various Assistance to Abaca Farmers Associations and Stakeholders in Northern Samar

In a momentous ceremony held at the Capitol Gym in Catarman, Northern Samar on July 14, 2023, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. , along with DA-RFO8 Regional Director Andrew Rodolfo T. Orais and PhilFIDA RO VIII Regional Director Wilardo O. Sinahon, personally handed over the "Certificate of Commitment" to Mr. Ernesto D. Giray, representative and President of BINGLAD Farmers Association of Lao-ang, Northern Samar. The assistance package includes PhP1,040,000.00 worth of Abaca planting materials, which will be allocated to selected 13 barangays in Northern Samar for the establishment of 1-hectare Abaca Nursery Farms in 2024. This strategic move is set to strengthen the Abaca industry in the region, creating opportunities for sustainable growth and economic development.

Department Special Order No. 272 Spurs Collaborative Effort to Develop PNS-Pineapple Illustrative Guide

In a commendable joint effort, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) came together under the Department Special Order No. 272 series of 2023 to form a Technical Working Group (TWG) for the development of Knowledge Products of Philippine National Standards (PNS), particularly focusing on the creation of the PNS-Pineapple Illustrative Guide (IG).
