PhilFIDA Successfully Organizes the HIBLA BIDA!!! The 2023 National Fibercrops Summit in the Philippines

In a significant effort to promote the Philippines' thriving fibercrop industry, Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., accompanied by Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, representing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Assistant Secretary and Concurrent PhilFIDA OIC Executive Director Atty. Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, CESE, DA Senior Usec Domingo F. Panganiban, and Congressman Jose "Bong" Teves Jr. of TGP Partylist, graced the #HIBLABIDA!!! The 2023 National Fibercrops Summit organized by the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) that took place on November 14, 2023, at the DA-BSWM Convention Hall, Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City.

The summit, attended by various government officials and industry stakeholders in the fibercrop sector, aimed to analyze the current state of the fibercrops industry in the Philippines and address implementation issues surrounding priority fibercrops, including abaca, cotton, pina, salago, and silk.

This event, held at an opportune time when the significance of sustainable and locally sourced materials is increasingly recognized globally, underscores the Philippines' commitment to elevating its fibercrop sector.

The summit has laid the groundwork for garnering commitment of support from government officials and policymakers. It also aims to foster collaboration among government officials, industry leaders, and stakeholders to devise effective strategies for streamlining production processes, enhancing quality control measures, and promoting sustainable practices. This collective effort is geared towards creating a conducive environment that propels the fibercrop industry to new heights of success and sustainability.
