PhilFIDA and PNP Inks MOU in Sorsogon City to Regulate Abaca Fiber Shipments

Date Posted 10 May 2024

To regulate the transportation of abaca fiber, the Provincial Police Office (PNP) of Sorsogon has forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA). This collaboration, rooted in the "NO PTF, NO SHIPMENT" policy, seeks to enforce strict adherence to regulatory measures governing abaca fiber shipments originating from Sorsogon and destined for areas beyond the Bicol Region. With the MOU signed on February 13, 2024, at the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office, key figures including Provincial Director PCol Dionesio T. Laceda and PhilFIDA-V OIC-Regional Director, Mary Anne R. Molina, pledged their commitment to ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

PhilFIDA's involvement in this partnership underscores its confidence in effectively regulating abaca fiber traders who fail to obtain the necessary Permit to Transport Fiber (PTF). By requiring the PTF for all shipments, which is provided free of charge by PhilFIDA, the collaboration aims to streamline the regulatory process while maintaining strict oversight. This joint endeavor not only demonstrates the PNP's dedication to service, honor, and justice but also signifies a proactive approach to supporting the regulatory framework of the abaca fiber industry, ultimately contributing to its sustainability and integrity within Sorsogon and beyond.
