Date Posted 05 February 2024

The PhilFIDA Regional Office VII successfully completed the cultivation and harvesting of cotton in the expansion area of Brgy. Planas, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental on January 26, 2024. A substantial portion of the farms has reached harvestable maturity since planting began in the 2nd week of September 2023. However, this project is strategically focused, representing an expansion into new territories for this year's implementation.

A substantial 30 hectares were allocated to cotton farming through collaboration with the local government unit of Guihulngan and the 46 farmer-cooperators in Brgy. Planas and Buenavista.

The event was led by Ms. Nena D. Locsin, Negros Oriental Fiber Provincial Officer, with the assistance of Ms. Halley Heria, the dedicated field technician assigned to the area.

Additionally, the region is preparing for the Cotton Field Day scheduled for February 7-8, 2024. This presents another opportunity to witness the project's achievements firsthand, as invitations will be extended to various line agencies.

PhilFIDA is dedicated to advancing agricultural development in the region, fostering collaboration between government bodies, and supporting local farmers in adopting innovative and sustainable practices. We look forward to celebrating the continued success of the Cotton Development Project and its positive impact on local communities.
