Exploratory Meeting between PhilFIDA and the Embassy of India

Date Posted 16 January 2024

On January 16, 2024, an exploratory discussion took place between the Embassy of India, represented by Dr. Sadre Alam, Economic and Commerce (E & C) Wing Counsellor, Mr. Josh Isleta, Marketing Assistant, and Mr. Puran Singh, E & C Attaché, and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), led by Atty. Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, Assistant Secretary, and Concurrent OIC, along with personnel from Fiber Utilization and Technology Division, Planning Division, and Technical Assistance Division.

The primary objective of the discussion was to foster mutually beneficial cooperation in the realms of Arts and Culture, Handicrafts, and Handlooms. This initiative aligns with the upcoming visit to the Philippines in February 2024 by a delegation of 5-8 members from the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development (NEHHDC) under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India.

In addition to this, the discussions covered potential collaborations, opportunities, innovations, and technologies that PhilFIDA could adopt to enhance the country's fibercrops, including cotton and silk, where India is renowned. Exploring these avenues will not only strengthen the ties between India and the Philippines but will also significantly contribute to the development of the fibercrop industry in the Philippines.
