PhilFIDA Participates in DTI's National Arts and Crafts Fair 2023 at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City

Date Posted 11 October 2023

The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), through the Technical Assistance Division, participated in the 2023 DTI National Arts and Crafts Fair held at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall on October 04 to 08, 2023. The agency's involvement aimed to showcase the talents of weavers from Bulacan and Samar, featuring and selling a diverse array of products crafted from two of the Philippines' natural fibers: Buntal and Tikog.

This significant event brought together more than 250 exhibitors participating in the physical show, complemented by at least 200 MSMEs engaged in an e-commerce platform and Facebook Live broadcasts. These participants hailed from 16 distinct regions across the Philippines. The grand opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Senator Loren Legarda, who commended the rich diversity of local products crafted in the Philippines. PhilFIDA's Officer-in-Charge, Atty. Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, also lent her presence and support to the event. This celebration coincided with October being National Indigenous Peoples Month, a time to celebrate the indigenous cultures of the country and their invaluable contributions.

To create an engaging and interactive exhibit, weavers from Baliuag Buntal Handicrafts Manufacturing and Basey Association for Native Industry Growth (BANIG) Inc. conducted live demonstrations on creating fiber products using Buntal and Tikog.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Department of Trade and Industry, particularly the Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP), for the successful organization of this event. We also express our gratitude to everyone who visited our booth, supported local craftsmanship, and embraced the spirit of #SupportLocal and #BuyLocal.
