A Look into the Fiber Trading and Processing Establishments in Region IV-A and NCR

Date Posted 02 October 2023

The world of fiber trading and processing is a complex and vital component of numerous industries, providing the materials that shape our daily lives. In a quest to ensure that these establishments adhere to the stringent policies and standards set by the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), a dedicated team from Regulatory Division and PhilFIDA Regional Office IV embarked on a comprehensive monitoring and site inspection of thirty-seven (37) licensed traders, processors and grading & baling establishments in National Capital Region (NCR) and provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon on July 31 to August 4, 2023.

The team explored a range of licensed fiber trading and processing establishments, shedding light on their operations and compliance with PhilFIDA's regulations, each with its unique fiber-related focus, spanning from abaca rope producers to specialty paper processors, showcasing the rich tapestry of the fiber industry.

While most of the businesses demonstrated full compliance, there were notable areas that could benefit from improvement. Recommendations include enhancing signage at various establishments to improve visibility and compliance with regulations, conducting re-orientation sessions for classifiers, particularly regarding fiber grading classifications, and considering reclassification of fibers in certain establishments to ensure accurate categorization. These inspections not only identified areas for improvement but also underscored the industry's achievements and ongoing commitment to excellence. By upholding regulatory standards, the fiber industry in Region IV-A and NCR can continue to prosper and contribute significantly to our nation's economic growth.
