PhilFIDA RO XI Empowers Cooperatives in South Cotabato Through the Conduct of Livelihood Training on Twine Making

Date Posted September 2023

A two-day Livelihood Training on Twine Making using decorticated Pineapple Fiber was recently conducted at Landan People's Multipurpose Cooperative in Polomolok, South Cotabato, on August 15 to 16, 2023.

The primary objective of the training was to equip participants with the knowledge and fundamental techniques needed for pineapple twine making using waste derived from decorticated pineapple fiber. This transformation turns the waste into valuable resources for various product developments, including bags, accessories, home décor, footwear, and various arts and crafts. This skill acquisition not only helps cooperatives generate additional income from their raw products but also contributes to the economic development of the region.

A total of 27 participants attended the training, representing their respective cooperatives. The training drew participants from five prominent cooperatives actively involved in the Pineapple Fiber Industry namely Polo SN Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), Landan People's MPC, Tupi Integrated Agricultural Cooperative (TIAC), Pobusilla MPC, and T'boli Farm Grower MPC, all operating within the vicinity of Polomolok and T'boli in South Cotabato.

As PhilFIDA continues to support our local farmers, this initiative serves as a reminder that by equipping our farmers with essential skills and harnessing our natural resources wisely, we can build not only economic stability but also create a sustainable and thriving environment for generations to come.
