PhilFIDA Regional Office VIII Launches Climate Smart Field School on Abaca Production Technology in Dolores, Eastern Samar

Date Posted September 2023

On August 10, 2023, the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Regional Office VIII launched one of its FY 2023 activities, the Climate Smart Field School (CSFS), with a dedicated focus on Abaca Production Technology. This gathering brought together enthusiastic participants from the Integrated Network of Samar Abacaleros (INOSA).

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide comprehensive training and support to Abaca farmers in the region. The mission is to equip them with the knowledge and skills essential to elevate their production techniques and embrace sustainable practices in abaca production.

Eng. Jonathan M. Reambonanza, Technical Assistance Unit Head of PhilFIDA VIII, presented an overview of the three-month-long Climate Smart Field School on Abaca Production Technology, devoted entirely to Abaca Production Technology. With enthusiasm, he underlined the paramount importance of completing this training. It is not just a learning opportunity; it's a transformational experience that empowers participants to become trainers themselves, sharing their newfound expertise with other INOSA members. This ripple effect promises to ignite a wave of increased engagement in abaca farming across the region.

The commitment to this cause goes beyond the participants and PhilFIDA alone. The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist in Dolores, Eastern Samar, stands firmly in support by providing 20 sacks of Complete Fertilizers for the members of INOSA.

This activity highlights the efforts of PhilFIDA Regional Office VIII, specifically the Eastern Samar Provincial Office led by Mr. Romeo I. Prado, Provincial Fiber Officer, in promoting and educating our valued stakeholders on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in Abaca production.
