PhilFIDA-FUTD and PhilFIDA RO IV Conduct Stakeholders' Forums to Revitalize the Buntal Processing Centers in Quezon and Marinduque

Date Posted August 2023

The PhilFIDA, through a collaborative effort between the Fiber Utilization and Technology Division (FUTD) and PhilFIDA Regional Office IV, conducted a series of stakeholders' forums in Sariaya, Quezon, and Marinduque, on July 18 to 21, 2023. The primary objective of these forums was to revitalize the two Buntal Processing Centers (BPC) in the mentioned areas. This was achieved by addressing challenges, devising reorganization plans, and preparing comprehensive repair strategies.

In Sariaya, Quezon, the forum drew participation from key stakeholders, including representatives from the Local Government Unit led by the Executive Assistant to the Mayor, the Municipal Agriculturist Office, Sariaya Fiber Producer Association (SaFiPA), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). These attendees converged at Sariaya Municipal Hall to confront challenges and establish a reorganization plan for the association. The aim was to ensure the efficient management and operation of the center. During the inspection, several issues emerged, such as problems with the retting pond and safety concerns at the drying shed. In response, RO IV has already formulated repair plans, effectively demonstrating proactive measures to ensure sustained operations of the center.

Conversely, in Torrijos, Marinduque, the stakeholders' forum took place at the Municipal Hall. Participants included representatives from the Greenfield Farmers Association (GFA), LGU officials, the Municipal Agriculturist Office, Mayor's Office, Municipal Budget Office, Municipal Engineering Office, and the DTI. The group collectively suggested that reorganization stood as a viable solution to address the issues and concerns tied to the center's operation. During the on-site inspection of the center, specific areas were pinpointed as requiring repair and enhancement to maintain the structural integrity of the facility. PhilFIDA extends its appreciation to LGU Torrijos for their ongoing efforts in electrification works and the processing of permits and certificates for electrical connections. Additionally, plans are underway to pave the access road leading to the BPC.

Through partnership and proactive measures, PhilFIDA is prepared to continue weaving success stories in the tapestry of the nation's fiber industry.
