PhilFIDA RO VII Conducts a Farmers' Training on Sisal Fiber Twining in Brgy. Pancil, Barili, Cebu

The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) is committed to support the growth and development of the fiber industry including sisal in the country. PhilFIDA Regional Office VII took a significant step towards empowering local farmers through a Training on Sisal Fiber Twining on July 18-20, 2023, in Brgy. Pancil, Barili, Cebu.

The 3-day training aimed to equip farmer-beneficiaries with the necessary skills to operate the Sisal Processing Center and promote the use of sisal fiber in cottage industry products and other natural fiber-based goods.

A total of 38 farmer-beneficiaries actively participated in the training, including a representative from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Barili and two foreign nationals from Germany and Taiwan, both of whom are civic volunteers in Barili, Cebu. After the training, the participants were provided with sisal planting materials for them to establish their own sisal farms. This initiative is a significant step towards fostering local empowerment and providing sustainable growth of the sisal industry in the Philippines.
