Opening a New Door of Opportunity for the IPs Abaca Farmers of Davao Region

The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Regional Office XI participated in a face-to-face meeting on August 1, 2023, in Davao City. Also in attendance were representatives from the IP abaca farmer association, the General Manager of the FRP Material Sales Division, and the FRP Machinery Division in Osaka, Japan. This collaborative endeavor involved the Davao City Investment Promotion Center and the City Agriculture Office, both operating under the astute leadership of Hon. Sebastian Z. Duterte.

The primary aim of the meeting was to explore the potential of transforming abaca fiber into diverse industrial applications, encompassing glass fiber, automobile parts, and clothing. The funding for this innovative initiative will be provided by the Japanese Company, entailing the fabrication of an extraction machine to be generously donated to the IP Abaca Farmer Association. The project includes providing skill training to ensure the production of high-quality fiber, establishing a well-equipped processing center, and transferring the requisite technologies for the production of the envisioned industrial products.

PhilFIDA RO XI will spearhead the transfer of pertinent abaca production and fiber extraction technologies, alongside providing essential technical assistance crucial for the triumph of this collaboration with the City Government of Davao.
