Date Posted August 2023

The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) as the chairperson of the Agriculture and Fisheries Mechanization Research, Development, and Extension Network (AFMechRDEN) hosted the AFMechRDEN’s Consultative Meeting and Workshop on June 26-28, 2023, at Whitewoods Convention and Leisure Hotel, Cavite. This was attended by representatives from the regional field office, attached agencies, and bureaus of the Department of Agriculture including two personnel of the Interim Fiber Engineering Division representing the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA).

The activity aimed to validate and finalize the target activities under the Research, Development, and Extension for FY 2023-2028, formulate the RDE agenda and thrusts, present the accomplishments and completed projects and activities of the AFMECHRDEN and finalize the process flow in the submission of project proposals. It was composed of lectures where AFMECHRDEN accomplishments and completed projects and activities, draft RDE agenda, and thrust were presented to the participants. In addition, six (6) groups were formed, representing various agricultural commodities in need of mechanization.  Each group validated and updated the 2023-2028 National Agricultural and Fishery Mechanization Research Development and Extension (NAFMECHRDE) that was presented for comments and suggestions of the body, thereafter. The data collected from these group discussions will be essential in updating the National Agricultural and Fishery Mechanization Program (NAFMP) for 2023-2024. This NAFMP will guide in the national planning, programming, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and regulation of agricultural and fisheries mechanization programs and projects, which will result in the advancement of the agricultural sector of the country.

PhilFIDA commits to continue the exploration of innovative machinery towards full mechanization of the fiber industry, leading to the attainment of export-quality fibers, ultimately meeting the global fiber demand.
