Dialogue with Leaders of SAGUPA-SB of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas

The Office of the Executive Director and the Technical Assistance Division (TAD) in coordination with the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Plipinas (KMP) organized a meeting for the Samahan han Gudti nga Parag-uma ha Sinirangan Bisayas (SAGUPA-SB) last 5 March 2018 in Quezon City. The SAGUPA-SB, a member of Northern Samar Small Farmers Association (NSSFA), requested for a dialogue with the management of the PhilFIDA to personally discuss with the officials of the agency the problems of their abaca farmers from Northern Samar and other provinces of Eastern Visayas.

The dialogue was attended by SAGUPA-SB and NSSFA leaders and members and by the PhilFIDA management, headed by Executive Director Kennedy T. Costales, PhilFIDA Region VIII Director Wilardo Sinahon, and some staff of PhilFIDA central office and Region VIII. A total of twenty seven SAGUPA-SB and NSSFA leaders and members attended the dialogue.

The SAGUPA-SB is the regional chapter of KMP in Eastern Visayas and the broadest peasant alliance in the region with more than twenty thousand members. It was established in 1989 and has since been in the frontline of the farmers’ struggles in the region.
