The PhilFIDA Conducts Exposition of Phil. Natural Fibers in Conjunction with the 31st ASEAN Summit

Date Posted December 2017

The PhilFIDA, in teamwork with the Department of Agriculture (DA), conducted an exposition featuring the finest Philippine natural fibers on the sidelines of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit at the Phil. International Convention Center in Pasay City on 12-14 November 2017.

The expo highlighted indigenous and artisanal world class handwoven fabrics such as T’nalak from South Cotabato, Piña cloth from Aklan, Hablon from Iloilo, Inabel from Ilocos Norte and Ikat weaves from Ifugao. Live demonstration of the country’s centuries-old tradition of textile weaving was organized by PhilFIDA to put spotlight on the intricate and laborious hand-craft weaving that represent our indigenous cultures and traditions.

The holding of the exposition is one of the moves by the DA and PhilFIDA to promote and support Filipino agricultural entrepreneurs in further enhancing the production and renown of their world class products.

Incidentally, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN and the holding of its 31st summit with the theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”.
