The PhilFIDA Takes Part in the 2017 Sikat Pinoy National Arts and Crafts Fair

Date Posted October 2017

The PhilFIDA, together with other partner agencies and institutions, took part in the 2017 Sikat Pinoy National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF) held at Megatrade Halls 1-3, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City on 26-29 October 2017.

This was described as the biggest gathering of weavers and the largest showcase of proudly Philippine-made arts and crafts. Products made from Philippine indigenous textiles, mats and baskets and equipment for weaving were showcased to put spotlight on fiber-based products that represent our indigenous cultures and traditions. These products are results of the agency’s efforts in promoting the growth and development of the whole fiber industry, not only the conventional commercial fibers (e.g. abaca and cotton) but also the other native plant fibers such as piña, buntal, jute, raffia, sisal and kenaf.

The NACF featured more than 200 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) manufacturers of heritage crafts, artisanal crafts and native delicacies. With the support of Senator Loren Legarda, Filipino women weavers were the centerpiece at the fair to emphasize the importance of reviving handwoven textiles and the use of looms by communities all over the Philippines.

The Sikat Pinoy National Arts and Crafts Fair is one of the key programs of the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (DTI-BDTP) to provide marketing assistance to MSMEs engaged in the creative industries.
