Spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization, the “Makina Saka 2012 Agri-Machinery Roadshow” was held to showcase to the prospective farmer-beneficiaries of the available agricultural machinery/equipment.

  DA attached agencies and staff bureaus collaborated in this event.  As an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, FIDA participated in this event to convene manufacturers, suppliers, importers and concerned stakeholders in the mechanization of the industry.

FIDA, through Fiber Technology and Utilization Division conducted demonstration on the operation and maintenance of FIDA-designed fiber extraction machines, tools and devices.  Participants in attendance are representatives from Local Government Units (LGU), Agricultural and Fishery Councils, and concerned stakeholders in the mechanization of the industry.  Rendered technical information on fiber production, processing and utilization and distributed FIDA brochures/flyers to a total of seventy two fiber clienteles.

To promote further uses of abaca fiber, demonstration and lectures on scrunch and macramé bag making were included in the afternoon’s itinerary on July 6, 2012. 
The preliminary activities of the demonstration include the presentation of abaca fibers and twines with different colors, and the products which can be produced from these materials.  The tarpaulin prints featuring the basic macramé knots used to create a bag and the entire process of scrunch making were shown to the audience.  The step by step procedure was explained followed by the actual demonstration.
