With the aim of evaluating accomplishments and the implementation status of key programs, projects, and activities (PPAs), as well as drafting the Abaca Roadmap, the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) conducted its 1st Semester Assessment for FY 2025 and initiated the drafting of the Abaca Roadmap for 2026–2030 on July 21–25, 2025, at Harolds Evotel, Quezon City. The activity was attended by personnel from the Central Office, Regional Directors, Technical Assistance Unit Heads, and other field staff.

The assessment served as a valuable platform to identify implementation gaps, challenges, and field-level issues. It also provided an opportunity to collaboratively develop responsive strategies and corrective measures. The recommendations gathered from the activity will be used to recalibrate and strengthen the implementation of PPAs in the second semester for FY 2025 to ensure that targets are met and services to stakeholders are further improved.

In addition, the drafting of the Abaca Roadmap for FY 2026–2030 commenced, with discussions focusing on benchmarking, reviewing the SWOT analysis, and setting strategic directions to answer the key question: “𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 2026 𝙩𝙤 2030 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙖 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮?”

This initiative reflects the directive of Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza to work collaboratively through a new strategy “Adopt-a-Farm” with a shared focus on supporting farmers and exploring value-adding opportunities for abaca and other fibercrops to enhance their market potential and improve farmers’ incomes.
