The award-winning program shed light on the abaca industry—a source of livelihood for many hardworking Filipinos and the backbone of global abaca supply, with over 80% produced right here in the Philippines! 
In Barangay Malaunay, Valencia, Negros Oriental, abaca grows abundantly. This is home to “Laoa”, one of the finest and most renowned forms of abaca fiber in the world.We met farmers like Jessie and Jun, who started harvesting abaca at just 17. Despite the challenges, their commitment and resilience shine through. 
“Ang importante, meron kaming konting matrabaho.”
Abaca isn’t just a strong natural fiber used in textiles, crafts, and even currency—it’s a lifeline for communities and a sustainable heritage we must protect and promote.
