PhilFIDA RO VII Negros Oriental Provincial Office successfully hosted a specialized training aimed at bolstering the sinamay industry by enhancing abaca fiber knotting skills. This training is in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) which was convened by 28 participants from various barangays of Valencia on April 19, 2024. Led by Ms. Nena D. Locsin, the Provincial Fiber Officer of Negros Oriental, the session provided invaluable insights and techniques essential for proficient knotting. With sinamay products deeply intertwined with the region’s cultural identity, the training not only address the dwindling abaca fiber supplies but also to preserve heritage and tradition.

Participants eagerly absorbed Ms. Locsin’s teachings, engaging in hands-on demonstrations and interactive sessions to hone their knotting skills. Armed with enhanced craftsmanship, they are ready to contribute effectively to the revitalization of the local abaca industry.
