To enhance community-based fiber initiatives, the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), in partnership with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), recently conducted field engagements across Negros Occidental, Antique, and Aklan. The activities aimed to assess ongoing projects, gather feedback from beneficiaries, and explore opportunities to scale fiber industry support at the grassroots level.
In San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, mulberry farmers under the Hibla Farming: PS4 project shared how the initiative improved their livelihood through expanded plantation efforts and technical assistance. Meanwhile, in Antique, members of the Patnongon Multi-Purpose Cooperative demonstrated cotton processing techniques they’ve adopted with PhilFIDA’s support—showcasing how localized value addition is boosting productivity and enterprise growth.
Site visits in Aklan featured traditional piña fiber extraction, weaving activities, and abaca trading operations. These interactions highlighted how PhilFIDA’s programs are helping preserve cultural practices while creating income-generating opportunities. Discussions with local entrepreneurs also focused on market-readiness and product development, emphasizing the need for sustained support in branding, marketing, and innovation.
These engagements reaffirm PhilFIDA’s commitment to empowering fiber-growing communities and ensuring that interventions are responsive, inclusive, and sustainable—laying the groundwork for a stronger, more resilient fiber industry.
