In line with ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with local and international government agencies, a significant meeting occurred on March 25, 2025, at the FPUL, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City. The meeting brought together representatives from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), led by Country Director Mr. Ibrahim Katirci and Mr. Kyle Christian Manejero, and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), with OIC-Deputy Executive Director Engr. Ramil B. Barcelona, Special Assistant to the Director Ms. Evelyn B. Cagasan, TAD OIC Manolito F. Apalla, and FUTD OIC Concepcion D. Jocson.
The primary objective of this meeting was to discuss the proposal titled “Improving Fiber Quality through Mechanization of Abaca Fiber Extraction Processes cum Training on Machine Operation, Maintenance, and Fiber Grading and Classification.” This initiative aims to modernize abaca fiber production by providing fiber extraction machines to abaca farmers in Catanduanes, widely recognized as the abaca capital of the Philippines. The collaboration marks a pivotal step toward enhancing the quality of abaca fibers and supporting the livelihoods of local farmers.
To formalize this partnership, the next phase involves the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), solidifying the commitment between PhilFIDA and TIKA to advance this shared goal.
PhilFIDA remains unwavering in its goal to promote the growth and development of the natural fiber industry, with a focus on improving the living conditions of fibercrop farmers, particularly those in the abaca sector, across the nation.
