The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Regional Office V recently concluded a successful two-day intensive abaca handloom weaving training in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Labo. The training aimed to equip participants with basic skills and techniques in abaca handloom weaving using locally sourced abaca raw materials. This initiative seeks to introduce an additional livelihood in the area thereby promoting employment and income opportunities.
The training was facilitated by the Provincial Office of Camarines Norte headed by Provincial Fiber Officer, Mr. Edgar A. Abriol, and the Regional Training Coordinator, Ms. Virginia N. Roranes, under the leadership of OIC-Regional Director, Mary Anne R. Molina.
The hands-on sessions saw enthusiastic participation of mostly youth members of Labo Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LMPC). The collaboration between PhilFIDA and LGU-Labo showcases a strong commitment to supporting abaca farmers, fostering community development and preserving traditional crafts.
