The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) visited the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) to convene a high-level meeting with the partner agency to strengthen collaborative efforts for the Philippine fiber industry.
PhilFIDA Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza led the discussions alongside key officials including Evelyn B. Cagasan, Special Assistant to the Executive Director; Dr. Leny C. Galvez, Program Leader of PhilFIDA-PCAARRD Project; and Jayson C. Asunto, Project 2 Leader. The meeting was joined by PCAARRD Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora together with Crop Research Division Director Leilani D. Pelegrina and Abaca ISP Manager Kristine Joy Panaligan-De Guzman, along with UPLB-Institute of Plant Breeding Director Elmer E. Enicola.
The productive dialogue focused on enhancing research and development initiatives for abaca and other natural fibers, particularly in areas of tissue culture advancement, fiber quality improvement, and sustainable production systems. The agencies reaffirmed their commitment to work together in developing innovative solutions to industry challenges while exploring new market opportunities. This collaboration underscores PhilFIDA’s dedication to building a more competitive and sustainable Philippine fiber sector through strategic partnerships with research institutions and government agencies, ultimately benefiting local farmers and stakeholders across the value chain.
