Pursuant to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to advance fiber sector research, production, and education while seizing new growth opportunities, the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) is strengthening its partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure a sustainable and globally competitive fiber sector. This collaborative effort includes Agridom Solutions Corp., led by COO Jennifer Joy Subang, and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) with Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco. PhilFIDA Executive Director Ali Atienza has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in fiber production and processing.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is leading efforts to strengthen the abaca supply chain through innovative solutions, while also expressing enthusiasm for Executive Director Ali Atienza’s idea of introducing abaca slippers as a sustainable product for hotels. Agridom Solutions Corp. brings expertise in innovative fiber technologies, helping to bridge the gap between traditional farming methods and modern sustainable practices with drone technology.
With DTI’s support, this initiative will focus on increasing the economic value of indigenous fibers like abaca, positioning them as high-quality materials for both local and international markets. Initial efforts will focus on Mindanao, starting with abaca—the country’s largest fiber commodity- while setting the stage for expanding to other regions and introducing various fiber crops in the future. By working closely with Agridom and DTI, PhilFIDA aims to enhance the capabilities of local fibercrop farmers and improve processing technologies by promoting sustainable, eco-friendly, and biodegradable fiber production.
This strategic collaboration underscores a shared commitment to empowering fiber crop farmers, advancing research and development, and strengthening the Philippines’ position in the global fiber industry. Aligned with the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) vision under Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr., this initiative promotes sustainable and resilient technologies to enhance productivity and profitability in the fiber sector, contributing to a stronger agricultural economy.
