Pursuant to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to advance fiber sector research, production, and education while seizing new growth opportunities, Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza led a visit to Barangay Bago, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, where he met with the Bago Integrated Solar Farmers Association (BISFA). The organization is dedicated to processing pineapple leaves into high-quality fiber, contributing to the growth of the natural fiber industry.
During the visit, Executive Director Atienza reaffirmed PhilFIDA’s commitment to supporting the association by pledging an additional decorticating machine to enhance their fiber production capacity. He also personally engaged with farmers, listening to their concerns and experiences in fiber processing. To further strengthen its operations, PhilFIDA will provide training programs and has committed to supplying labor and materials for the construction of a drying shed.
In a hands-on demonstration of his support, Executive Director Atienza experienced fiber extraction himself, showing his dedication to understanding the farmers’ craft firsthand. With these initiatives, PhilFIDA continues to empower local fiber producers, ensuring sustainable livelihoods and advancing the Philippine natural fiber industry.
