The 2024 Fiber Industry Stakeholders Forum, organized by the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Regional Office VII, took place on September 19, 2024, in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. The event brought together 50 participants from local government units, farmers, traders, private sectors, and national agencies. The forum focused on presenting the current status of the fiber industry, particularly in Region VII, and gathered feedback from stakeholders on critical industry issues.
Key speakers included Mr. Joel B. Barquilla, who discussed PhilFIDA’s regulatory policies and the global market situation for fibers, and Ms. Pelita R. San Juan, who shared statistical insights on fiber production. The event also highlighted PhilFIDA’s programs and projects for the region, with significant input from stakeholders on issues such as fiber classification and licensing.
The forum was an important step in advancing the fiber industry in Negros Oriental. Negros Oriental Provincial Agriculturist Emmanuel Caduyac and Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce President Edward Du expressed their commitment to industry development, emphasizing collaboration and the potential establishment of a local Fiber Industry Council.
