The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), led by Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza, visited Ching Bee Trading, Inc., one of the country’s largest abaca trading companies, to strengthen collaboration and discuss the current state of the abaca industry in Region VIII. Supporting the engagement were Special Assistant for the Technical Assistance Division on Programs, Projects, and Activities (PAPs) Mr. Manolito F. Apalla and OIC Regional Director Joseph S. Salas.
The PhilFIDA delegation was warmly received by Ms. Karen Llevado, Manager of the establishment. The meeting focused on the status of abaca production in the region, prevailing market prices, and key challenges affecting the industry. Both parties explored possible collaborative programs and initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting abaca farmers particularly in enhancing productivity, promoting fair pricing, and strengthening market linkages.
The visit underscores PhilFIDA’s continued commitment to working closely with industry stakeholders to sustain the growth and global competitiveness of the Philippine abaca industry, while advancing the welfare of Filipino abaca farmers.
