The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), led by Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza, conducted the Training on the Operation and Maintenance of the Mechanical Pineapple Leaf Scraper (MPALS II) at the Piña Processing Center in Brgy. Fulgencio, Balete, Aklan.
Implemented through the Fiber Utilization and Technology Division (FUTD) headed by Engr. Ramil B. Barcelona in coordination with the Regional Satellite Office VI supported by OIC-Regional Director Mary Ann Nerio, the activity gathered key stakeholders including the Piña Weavers and Farmers Association, Aklan Piña Artisans Association, Aklan State University, and the Philippine Agricultural and Fisheries Council.
The activity aimed to assess the machine’s productivity and operational performance under actual field conditions. Participants expressed strong interest in the technology, recognizing its potential to ease the labor-intensive manual scraping process.
Through this initiative, PhilFIDA reaffirms its commitment to innovation and to strengthening the sustainability and efficiency of the piña fiber industry.
