The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), through its Task Force on Fiber Quality, continues to uphold the integrity and excellence of the country’s abaca industry. Under the leadership of Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza and guided by OIC-Regional Director Engr. Irma R. Rodis, the team composed of Mr. Norberto P. Solano, Mr. Andy M. Baco, Mr. Joel T. Alcoser, and Ms. Mary Glaine R. Valdez conducted a series of check-inspections, monitoring, and surveillance activities in licensed Grading and Baling Establishments (GBEs) across Davao City and Davao del Sur.
These activities form part of PhilFIDA’s continuing efforts to ensure strict compliance with the Philippine National Standards (PNS) for Abaca Fiber and Administrative Circular No. 12, s. 2002, which outline the proper grading, classification, and trading of abaca fibers. By maintaining consistent fiber quality, PhilFIDA safeguards the credibility of local traders and exporters while fostering fair competition within the industry.
The inspection also aims to strengthen quality assurance mechanisms that build the confidence of international buyers further positioning the Philippines as the world’s leading source of premium abaca fiber. This initiative underscores PhilFIDA’s commitment to promoting sustainable industry practices, protecting the interests of local stakeholders, and preserving the global reputation of Philippine abaca as a world-class natural fiber.
