In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. to boost agricultural productivity and promote sustainable livelihoods, the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) led by Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza, OIC-Regional Director Mary Anne R. Molina, and OIC-Technical Assistance Division Manolito F. Apalla distributed 1,007 abaca tissue-cultured plantlets to Mr. Edgar Villarreal of Sabangan, Caramoran, Catanduanes.
The activity aims to boost abaca production by providing farmers with disease-free, high-yielding planting materials that promote resilient and sustainable fiber farming. This initiative forms part of PhilFIDA’s continuing efforts under the DA’s banner program, Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya, to modernize and strengthen the country’s fiber industry.
