The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) and the Municipal Local Government Unit of Sibagat held a consultative meeting to discuss ways to revitalize and sustain the abaca industry in the municipality. The meeting focused on identifying priority interventions and exploring legislative measures to give long-term support to our abaca farmers and industry stakeholders. This initiative is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. to support farmers and strengthen the fiber industry nationwide.

Leading the discussions was PhilFIDA Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza, together with OIC-Regional Director Mr. Samuel M. Nacino Jr, OIC-Regulatory Division Mr. Joel B. Barquilla, OIC-Planning Division Ms. Grace Aurora P. Pastores, and OIC-FUTD Ms. Conception Jocson. Representing Sibagat LGU was Hon. Maria Liza Lamanilao-Evangelista, Vice Mayor of Sibagat. Local fiber producers and partner institution Ecosystem Works for Essential Benefits (ECoWEB) also joined, bringing valuable insights from the grassroots level.

This collaboration marks a significant step in ensuring that the abaca industry in Sibagat continues to thrive, while empowering farmers, creating opportunities, and strengthening our local economy.
