The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) proudly celebrates a new chapter in the promotion of local craftsmanship with the successful inauguration of the SM Sunrise Weaving and Processing Center in Sitio Sta. Margarita, Brgy. Munting Tubig, Ibaan, Batangas on July 29, 2025. This landmark project, made possible through the generous support of Senator Loren Legarda and PhilFIDA, aims to uplift the lives of community weavers by providing them with a dedicated space for fiber processing and production.
Present during the turnover ceremony were PhilFIDA Executive Director Arnold “Ali” Atienza, OIC-Regional Director Jose Catalla, and OIC-FUTD Ms. Concepcion Jocson, who all emphasized the agency’s continued commitment to empowering rural communities through sustainable livelihood opportunities. PhilFIDA recognizes the invaluable role of local weaving associations in preserving Filipino traditions and promoting inclusive development across the regions.
The event was further highlighted by the active participation of local leaders, including Municipal Administrator Ryan De Sagun representing Mayor Jane Casas, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and Brgy. Captain Mario Acebo, reflecting the strong partnership between the national government and local stakeholders. The symbolic awarding of the certificate and key, followed by the ribbon-cutting and blessing, marked a hopeful beginning for the weaving association and the broader fiber sector in Ibaan, Batangas.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration continues to champion programs that support rural industries, cultural preservation, and local economic growth. PhilFIDA remains steadfast in realizing this vision by strengthening the fiber industry through infrastructure, training, and community engagement.
